My daughter is nearly 21 years old, she will celebrate it without me being at her party. The ladies on her mother’s side of the family will be taking her to Vegas the same weekend my 11 year old son arrives from Phoenix for the summer. Just yesterday I remember the times she’s fall asleep on me, tired from her adventures. I was the one she turned to for her creative side, the fort builder (chairs and blankets consuming the living room), the painter, the sketch artist, and the play write. We connected at that level.
Lately my daughter has been calling me alot, sometimes because she’s bored, other times to ask for money in her ever so subtle ways, and still others wanting advice but unwilling to be deliberate in asking. She’s not able to talk about her need for me, but I see it as only a father can.
At times like these I wish I could tell her with words on the phone what a simple picture can say, “I love you, I will never let you down”
Thanks for reading this far.
