I was just thinking of my little girl

My_Little_GirlMy daughter is nearly 21 years old, she will celebrate it without me being at her party. The ladies on her mother’s side of the family will be taking her to Vegas the same weekend my 11 year old son arrives from Phoenix for the summer. Just yesterday I remember the times she’s fall asleep on me, tired from her adventures. I was the one she turned to for her creative side, the fort builder (chairs and blankets consuming the living room), the painter, the sketch artist, and the play write. We connected at that level.

Lately my daughter has been calling me alot, sometimes because she’s bored, other times to ask for money in her ever so subtle ways, and still others wanting advice but unwilling to be deliberate in asking. She’s not able to talk about her need for me, but I see it as only a father can.

At times like these I wish I could tell her with words on the phone what a simple picture can say, “I love you, I will never let you down”

Thanks for reading this far.

My daughter turned 20 in February and I wasn't able to celebrate with her because of work, and today's my birthday and it's the same thing. I can relate to this; I miss her very much.

Girls simply know this about their daddies. They don't need to be told.

I hope your daughter has a wonderful time in Vegas. I don't even remember what I did for my 21st? In Kansas at that time, we were able to drink beer legally at 18, but not liquor until age 21. So it wasn't a big deal to order a drink in a bar or anything because I had already been doing that. I didn't go to Vegas until a few years later. My 21st must not have been memorable, if I can't remember huh? Oh well, happy birthday to your wonderful daughter!

This is nice. I have never been close with my dad and it makes things now, with him needing me, weirder than it should be. Vegas with the ladies would be a fun thing, my youngest son and a bunch of his friends went there on Spring Break the year they all turned 21. My 21st birthday was spent at the strip bar my husband wanted to go to, with me drinking 7-up cos I was 5 months pregnant with above mentioned youngest son.

Its so nice of you to write about your daughter and your relationship with her. Im sure even if she doesnt tell much about her feelings she has very special place for you in her heart. Im sure she appreciates very much your care and concern.
Happy Birthday to your sweetie! Hope she'll have a nice time in Vegas!

Tim that's awesome, sounds like a normal relationship for the age…she won't realize for a couple more years the wonderful relationship you both have 😉
